The Order of the Teaspoon – for tolerance, against fanaticism
While there may be fewer conflicts in the world these days, new conflicts, new wars and new violence keep flaring up, fed as always by unresolved problems between peoples.
The author Amos Oz – like Gandhi, a determined advocate of tolerance – has been working for a peaceful solution in the Middle East almost all his life. Recently he has formulated the Order of the Teaspoon.

The Order of the Teaspoon
The question Amos Oz asks is, how does a person act when something catches fire? He answers that they may act in three different ways:
1. They run away from the fire as fast as they can and ignore the people that cannot run.
2. They write an angry letter to the newspaper and demand that the people responsible resign.
3. They fetch a bucket of water and pour it on the fire. If they can’t find a bucket they take a glass. And if they can’t find a glass they take a teaspoon.
Everyone has a teaspoon, and if we all take our teaspoons we can put out the fire together.

Every year, the Order of the Teaspoon committee gives money to a project aiming to help people understand each other better.
If you would like to support the Order of the Teaspoon, you can buy a teaspoon pin to put on your dress/jacket/tie. The pin costs 350 Swedish kronor and is available in two sizes (2 cm and 5 cm). If you are interested in purchasing a Teaspoon please send an e-mail to info@teskedsorden.se.
